Marvel Rivals Meta Tier List and Best Team Comps for 2026
The meta shifts every season but some things stay consistent. Right now in mid 2026, sustain and team-up synergy define the competitive landscape. Aggressive dive comps punish uncoordinated teams but fall apart against organized backlines. Poke comps dominate on maps with long sightlines. And the Groot plus Rocket plus Star-Lord Guardian trio remains the most played composition in Diamond and above.
I'll break down what works and what doesn't based on the current patch. But honestly, tier lists only matter so much. A C tier hero you've mastered beats an S tier hero you picked for the first time every single match. I've seen a Captain America one trick absolutely destroy a meta slave Hela who clearly just picked her because some YouTuber said she was S tier. Hero comfort beats meta knowledge below Diamond, and I'd argue even in Diamond it's still close.
The other thing nobody mentions is that tier lists assume equal skill. They don't. Your 200 hour Groot is going to outperform your 5 hour Dr. Strange even if Strange is technically higher tier. Don't chase the meta. Find heroes you enjoy and get good at them. The tier list will shift next patch anyway.
Vanguard Tier List
S tier is Dr. Strange and Groot. Strange's portal is the single most impactful non-ultimate ability in the game. It repositions your entire team, bypasses choke points, and enables flanks that should not be possible. Groot's walls create safe zones on demand, and his iron wall placed behind enemies cuts off their healing completely. I've won matches purely because the enemy team refused to shoot Groot walls and just died without healing over and over.
A tier has Magneto, Thor, and Venom. Magneto's bubble shield saves teammates from certain death and his ultimate absorbs projectiles before detonating back at the enemy. Thor is a frontline brawler with solid self-sustain through damage. Venom leads dive compositions as the primary initiator.
B tier includes Hulk and Peni Parker. Hulk works in coordinated dive comps but struggles without follow-up. Peni is situational. Strong on defense, weak on attack. She kind of destroys uncoordinated teams that walk into her mines though, which is funny to watch.
C tier is Captain America. Not because he's bad. Because other tanks do what he does better. Still playable, just outclassed. Honestly if you really love Cap and have 100 hours on him, you can make him work. But if you're starting fresh, pick Groot or Magneto and save yourself the struggle.
Strategist Tier List
S tier is Luna Snow and Jeff the Land Shark. Luna has hitscan healing, a crowd control freeze, and an ultimate that makes her team functionally immortal for its duration. Jeff has auto-aim healing, mobility that makes him nearly impossible to pin down, and an ultimate that can swallow entire teams and spit them into environmental kills. Jeff gets banned a lot in Diamond so don't rely on him as your only support.
A tier has Mantis, Rocket Raccoon, and Adam Warlock. Mantis provides damage boost and ranged healing. Rocket offers continuous healing through bouncing orbs and the B.R.B. revive beacon. Adam Warlock brings Soul Bond damage sharing and a team revive ultimate. Rocket in particular is underrated. His revive beacon alone wins fights that should be lost.
B tier has Cloak and Dagger. Viable but outshined by the options above in most situations. They have their niche but you kind of need a specific comp to make them work.
Duelist Tier List
S tier is Hela and Star-Lord. Hela is the definitive hitscan DPS. Two headshots kill most non-tanks, her stun stops divers, and her ultimate gives her a massive HP pool while raining damage from above. Star-Lord has high mobility, consistent damage, and his ultimate auto-targets multiple enemies.
A tier includes Psylocke, Iron Man, Black Panther, and Magik. All strong in the right hands and the right composition. Iron Man dominates if uncontested by hitscan. Black Panther and Magik are dive specialists who delete backlines when supported properly.
B tier is Spider-Man, Storm, Hawkeye, and Punisher. Spider-Man is a pub stomper who gets shut down by CC. Storm provides area control and damage buffs but is slow and vulnerable to hitscan. Hawkeye requires aim that most players don't have. Punisher is consistent but unremarkable.
Worth noting that bans in Diamond and above currently target Jeff, Luna Snow, Hela, and Dr. Strange most frequently. If you main any of these, have a backup ready. I had a ranked match where both my mains got banned and I had to play Thor at a Gold level in a Diamond lobby. We lost. Badly. Learn from my mistakes.
The Three Best Team Comps Right Now
The Guardians sustain comp is the most consistent. Groot and Thor on tank duty. Star-Lord and Hela for DPS. Rocket and Luna Snow for support. The game plan is simple. Rocket's healing orbs plus Luna's burst healing make the frontline nearly unkillable. Star-Lord flanks the backline while Hela pressures from range. Win condition is outlasting the enemy through pure sustain. It's boring but it works.
Dive comp punishes uncoordinated teams. Venom and Hulk initiate. Black Panther and Magik follow up. Mantis and Jeff provide healing that can keep up with fast-moving divers. Win condition is killing both enemy Strategists in the first five seconds of every fight. If the fight lasts more than ten seconds your divers run out of cooldowns and die. Honestly this comp is feast or famine. Either you steamroll or you get steamrolled. Not much in between.
Poke comp works for coordinated teams on long range maps. Magneto and Dr. Strange provide shields and utility. Hela and Punisher poke from 30 plus meters. Adam Warlock and Luna Snow keep everyone topped off. Win condition is getting a pick before the fight starts. Hela lands a headshot, Punisher finishes, Strange portals the team onto the now 5v6 enemy. This comp requires patience and most ranked teams don't have it.
Counter Picks You Should Know
If they have Iron Man or Storm, pick Hela or Punisher. Hitscan shuts down flyers. If they have Groot walling you off, pick Thor or Magik. Melee ignores walls. If Jeff is being annoying, pick Hela or Black Panther. Burst damage kills him before he bubbles. If Luna Snow is carrying, pick Venom or Magik. Dive her. She can't heal when she's running. If Hela is dominating, pick Spider-Man or Venom. Close distance fast. She's weak at close range. If Spider-Man is terrorizing your supports, pick Luna or Mantis. Freeze or sleep stops him mid-combo.
There are more counter matchups than this obviously but those are the ones you'll use most often. The general rule is: flying heroes lose to hitscan, dive heroes lose to CC, shield heroes lose to melee, and isolated supports lose to dive.
The best hero to one-trick if you're going to do that is probably Luna Snow. She's rarely banned, fits every composition, and has the highest skill ceiling among supports. But honestly, don't one-trick. Learn at least six heroes. Your teammates will thank you.
When should you swap? After dying twice to the same hero or strategy, swap immediately. Don't wait. Don't convince yourself the third time will be different. It won't be. I have been that guy who stayed on Iron Man against Hela for an entire match and I'm telling you from experience. Just swap.
